Unless Congress passes legislation, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives get an automatic pay increase every year. This is wrong. I did not get into public service to get rich, and I believe service should always come before self. I introduced a bill to end these automatic pay raises.
According to Gallup, Congress has a job approval rating of about 18%. It’s clear we have a lot of work to do on behalf of the American people. It’s time we prove to the American people that their elected representatives are here to serve them, not to serve themselves.
My bill is simple: it stops the salary bump that Members are slated to automatically get this year and all future pay increases.
Let’s focus on working to better the lives of the people we were elected to serve.
