Nunn Secures Passage of Critical Agricultural Programs For Iowans

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) released the following statement after voting to support Iowa farmers and rural communities by passing a full year extension of critical agricultural programs:

“Iowa’s farmers are critical to the American economy, providing the essential service of feeding and fueling our country. With input costs up and inflation driving profits down, producers are facing enough difficulties without worrying about D.C. hurting their business. They deserve far better than to be saddled with the consequences of politicians not doing their job. That’s why, today, I voted to extend funding for critical farm programs for a year so Iowa’s producers can have the certainty they need to continue running their operations after a busy harvest season. I’m also continuing to aggressively fight for a five-year Farm Bill that includes the priorities shared with us during our Farm Bill Listening Tours.”

BACKGROUND

The House of Representatives today passed the Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, which extends Farm Bill programs through September 30, 2024.  The extension of the Farm Bill ensures the continuation of all critical programs that the more than 84,000 Iowa farmers rely on, including:

  • Fully funding the farm safety net through commodity programs and crop insurance
  • Continued support for conservation programs
  • Support for rural development, including infrastructure and health care services
  • Expansion of rural broadband
  • Investment in agricultural innovation and security
  • Backing for robust production of biofuels to lower energy costs for Americans
