Perry Strong

As we move forward from the events that happened on Thursday, now is a time for healing – a time to rally around our family and neighbors with our community. It’s critical we ensure our communities are safe, our kids feel confident to return to class, and families and educators know that Iowans have their back. There’s more work ahead, but right now, I wanted to make sure you had access to the resources available if you need assistance:

  • Counseling services will be available at the Perry Public Library on Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6 for anyone in need. Hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day.
  • Your Life Iowa is a free, statewide crisis line that assists with referral, counseling, crisis service coordination and linkages to crisis screening and mental health services. Call 855-581-8111 or text 855-895-8398 if you need assistance.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has a hotline available from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Friday at 800-950-6264.
  • If you’re in distress and experiencing a suicidal crisis, call 988. The service is free, confidential and 24/7 for those needing emotional support or crisis counseling.
  • Therapy dogs may be available for those in need. Please find out more information here
