DES MOINES — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today announced the “Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veteran Resource Fair,” a resource fair to help connect Iowa’s veterans with support from community organizations and government agencies in our area.
“As a veteran of the Air Force and current member of the Air Force Reserve, I know there is very little that is more important than supporting current servicemembers and providing resources to veterans who have served our country. That’s why I’m excited to announce our first Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veteran Resource Fair,” said Rep. Nunn. “Veterans can attend to learn more about support within our community. I hope to see you there!”
The fair will include three breakout sessions. Attendees will hear updates from Rep. Nunn about his work in Congress on behalf of Iowa’s veterans; Tracie Pinkston, Director of the Iowa Veterans Affairs Regional Office, about accessing PACT Act resources; and Katina Mach-Weissenburger, Director of the Des Moines Vet Center, about mental health support for veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. Additional speakers are pending confirmation.
Rep. Nunn will also have caseworkers available to help veterans cut through red tape at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other government agencies. Community organizations, including veteran affairs service officers from Polk and Guthrie counties, will be in attendance.
