DES MOINES — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today announced that he secured $4 million for infrastructure improvements at the Des Moines International Airport. This federal investment will help expand the de-icing apron to improve efficiency at the airport.
“Traveling can be a pain – passengers often experience delays, poor customer service, and uncomfortable seating. The Des Moines International Airport is working to fix that,” said Rep. Nunn. “Upgrading the de-icer at the airport will allow for fewer delays and more flights, improving the overall passenger experience.”
Rep. Nunn secured $4 million through the community project funding process, which allows members to designate funding for critical initiatives. The funding was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 that was signed into law on Saturday, March 6, 2024.
“The Des Moines Airport Authority is very appreciative of Congressman Nunn’s support for Community Project Funding to be used for airport development,” said Kevin Foley, Executive Director of the Des Moines Airport Authority. “These grants are funded through the FAA’s Discretionary Airport Improvement Program and competition for those dollars is enormous. As a freshman member of Congress, Rep. Nunn jumped in with both feet and provided support, without which the airport would not have received the four-million-dollar grant. This funding puts us one step closer to completing airport development which includes a new passenger terminal.”
Rep. Nunn announced the new funding during a press conference at the Des Moines International Airport with Executive Director Kevin Foley. Video of the press conference can be found here.
