Nunn Votes to Support Israel, Hold Iran Accountable, Bolster America’s National Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) released the following statement after voting to show unwavering support for Israel and hold Iran accountable for their barbaric acts of terror:

“Our country is at a crossroads: do we protect national security, or do we allow our adversaries to take point on the world stage? Just one week ago, Iran rained terror down on Israel through an attempted lethal missile strike. While those attacks were intercepted by the U.S. and others, we must hold Iran accountable for their acts which have claimed the lives of three U.S. servicemembers already this year. America will not enable terrorists and stands unequivocally with Israel during her moment of need. America must be unwavering in our support of Israel’s right to defend herself.

“That’s why I voted today to pledge America’s support of our strongest ally in the Middle East by providing them with critical military and defense assistance. Today’s vote also included my amendment to hold Iran accountable and create transparency and effectiveness in America’s sanctions on the Iranian regime. By including my amendment, America will be able to hunt down high-value Iranian assets that are helping to fund their campaign of terror across the world and disarm them when necessary.

“Today’s vote strengthens our national security and will help keep every American safe.”

BACKGROUND:

Rep. Nunn introduced an amendment to H.R. 8030, 21st Century Peace through Strength Act, to require the U.S. Department of Treasury to identify all assets of the Iranian regime or covered persons valued at more than $5 million held outside of Iran. The amendment requires transparency in the enforcement of current sanctions on the Iranian regime, allows for essential and targeted legislation when responding to Iranian aggression, and provides accountability for government management of sanctions. The amendment passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 249-167.
