WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) joined the Iowa Congressional Delegation in a letter urging President Biden to approve Governor Kim Reynold’s Expedited Presidential Disaster Declaration request for federal assistance following severe storms in Iowa that occurred on May 21, 2024.
Governor Reynolds is seeking federal resources from the Individual Assistance Program and the Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Program for Adair, Polk, Story, and Montgomery counties. Reynolds also requested resources from the Public Assistance Program for Adair County, as well as statewide hazard mitigation.
The severe storm event consisted of several large tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding that resulted in large debris fields, washed out roads, and property damages throughout the state. The storms caused massive destruction in Greenfield in Adair County and significant damage in Polk, Story, and Montgomery counties. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Greenfield. Tragically, multiple fatalities and injuries have been confirmed as result of the storms.
