Nunn Secures $2 Million for Minburn Infrastructure

DES MOINES — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today announced that he secured a $2 million federal investment in improvements to water infrastructure in the City of Minburn.

“I’m incredibly excited to announce that we secured a $2 million federal investment for much-needed improvements for the Minburn water system,” said Rep. Nunn. “This investment will help the Minburn Fire Department keep people safe and ensure Minburn residents have access to safe drinking water. This is exactly the kind of investment the federal government should make – one that does the most good for the most people.”

Rep. Nunn secured the $2 million investment through the Community Project Funding process, which allows members to designate funding for critical initiatives. The funding was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 which was signed into law on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

“As mayor, one of my highest priorities is ensuring the long-term well-being of our community, and a critical part of that is maintaining and improving our infrastructure,” said Mayor Joe Stuetelberg. “Today, we’re pleased to announce important improvements to our town’s water system. I would like to extend my gratitude to our city staff, engineers, contractors, and Congressman Nunn for working to spur economic growth within our community.”

Minburn’s water system is more than seventy years old and experiences line breaks frequently, leading to boil orders. Additionally, the old system cannot be used by first responders to fight fires. This federal investment will support the Minburn Water Improvement Project in replacing water lines.

Rep. Nunn announced the new funding investment during a press conference at the Minburn City Hall with Mayor Stuetelberg and other members of the Minburn City Council. Video from the press conference can be found here.
