Nunn Passes Four National Security Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) today passed four critical bills to bolster national security through the House Financial Services Committee. These bills cut off fentanyl money laundering, strengthen counterterrorism investigations, stop the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from buying up American farmland, and hold China accountable for its role in the global drug trade.

“The Chinese Communist Party has made it clear that they will utilize every possible tool to endanger our economy, intellectual property, and national security. From trafficking fentanyl and money laundering to buying up American farmland, we must stand up and stop them today,” said Rep. Nunn. “Each of my bills that passed are a strong step toward that goal.”

Rep. Nunn co-led four bipartisan bills that passed through the March 5, 2025, markup by the House Financial Services Committee:

  • The OFAC Licensure for Investigators Act, would create a Treasury pilot program to allow private-sector firms to conduct financial investigations targeting sanctioned entities.
  • The Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act, which would expand sanctions against Chinese entities and officials that facilitate the production and trafficking of fentanyl.
  • The Stop Fentanyl Money Laundering Act, which would grant the Treasury Department additional tools to combat money laundering activities tied to fentanyl trafficking, particularly by China and Mexico.
  • The Agricultural Risk Review Act, which would add the Secretary of Agriculture as a permanent member on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

The Financial Services Committee advanced all four bills unanimously. They now await consideration by the full House of Representatives.
