🌪️ Storms hit Iowa — Here’s how we can help

Over the past few weeks, severe storms rolled across southern Iowa. Strong winds flattened corn along the Highway 2 and Highway 30 corridors, hail damaged soybean fields, and floodwaters washed over roads across our communities.

I grew up working on my family’s farm, so I know how devastating a storm like this hits and how long the road back can be. I’ve heard from Iowans across our community who are still assessing the damage, and I want to make sure you know about the resources we’re making available to help.

If you or someone you know needs recovery assistance, here’s what’s available:

🐄 Livestock losses: The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) provides financial assistance for livestock lost during the storm — or sold at a reduced value because of storm-related injuries.
🌾 Feed and grazing losses: The Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP) helps cover the cost of replacement feed and grazing losses.
🌲 Tree and orchard damage: The Tree Assistance Program (TAP) helps producers replant or rehabilitate damaged trees, bushes, and vines.
🚨 Emergency farm loans: Farmers in designated disaster areas who cannot obtain commercial financing may qualify for low-interest emergency loans.

The most important step is contacting your local USDA Farm Service Agency Service Center to report losses and get your questions answered.
