Des Moines, Iowa — Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) is introducing a bipartisan bill with fellow U.S. Air Force veteran Representative Don Davis (NC-01) to support America’s veterans. The Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act will support veteran-owned companies and incentivize business growth in rural communities.
“We should always do everything in our power to give back to America’s veterans who have given so much to our country. That’s why I’m excited to help introduce the bipartisan Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act,” said Rep. Nunn. “Our bill will give veterans a helping hand to open a new business in Iowa’s often underserved rural Iowa communities. This is truly a win-win for veterans and rural economic development.”
This bill will empower Iowa’s more than 174,000 veterans to start a small business in rural Iowa by:
- Providing a new tax credit for start-up expenses of a veteran-owned small business in an underserved community.
- Allowing for a tax credit up to 15% of start-up expenditures that do not exceed $50,000.
- Prioritizing small businesses owned and controlled by one or more veterans or their spouses and having its principal place of business in an underserved community.
“Providing our veteran business owners with more support to start small businesses will boost our local economies and inject a sense of pride and public service into our communities,” said Rep. Davis. “Our veteran-owned small businesses play an essential role in our society, and this bipartisan legislation will invest in our brave veterans while helping the communities that need assistance the most, like eastern North Carolina.”
