A promise was made

Inflation is out of control – costing Iowans $26,000 extra over the past two years. It’s harder for every family to buy everyday goods, but even more difficult for those living on a fixed income, like retirees who rely on their Social Security payments.

Today, I spoke with residents at Harmony West Des Moines about their biggest concerns with the federal government. Nearly every person there mentioned how difficult it is to budget for the rising cost of goods while on a fixed income.

Here’s the deal: When the government created Social Security and Medicare, it made a promise to Americans. I am 100% committed to protecting that promise – and that includes making sure these benefits are enough to cover essential goods.

That’s why I introduced the Safeguarding Social Security and Medicare Act to ensure the federal government has a plan to ensure retirees receive their full benefits despite the added challenges created by inflation.

Bottom Line: I will do everything in my power to ensure Iowans can count on their Social Security and Medicare benefits.
