I spent some time this week helping wrap up harvest with Jon in Dallas County! While we worked in the field, we also discussed his yields and how a new Farm Bill could help provide certainty for Iowa’s farmers.
One thing is for certain – we need a Farm Bill that supports all Iowans. After meeting with hundreds of Iowans on my Farm Bill Listening Tour, I helped pass a bipartisan Farm Bill out of the House Agriculture Committee that included 17 of our bipartisan priorities, including:
- Support for farmers:Â Bolstering commodity programs, strengthening crop insurance, increasing reference prices, and expanding access to credit for small and beginning farmers.
- Hard infrastructure:Â Investing in our rural communities, expanding broadband connectivity, and supporting rural America through disaster recovery, flood mitigation, drought, and more.
- Feeding America:Â By investing more than 80 percent of its funding in healthy food programs to feed the most vulnerable Americans among us.
- Protecting man’s best friend: Through stronger animal welfare protections to fight back against cruel puppy mills.
- Fighting back against foreign threats:Â Enhancing cybersecurity resources for agriculture, the second most targeted industry for attacks, and preventing China from purchasing American farmland.
Bottom Line: I won’t stop fighting for Iowa’s farmers!Â
