The federal bureaucracy has created a maze of red tape for Iowans to navigate as they try to access the benefits they earned. For example, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) makes it extremely difficult for veterans to access the benefits they deserve – leaving far too many of America’s heroes on the street, without healthcare, and needing support.
Let me be clear: the men and women who served our country in uniform deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. They shouldn’t need an advanced understanding of bureaucratic paperwork in D.C. to access their benefits.
That’s why I just voted to modernize the VA and make it easier for veterans to access the benefits they not only earned – but deserve:
- Expands economic opportunity for veterans
- Prevents healthcare options from dictating where veterans live
- Modernizes the disability claims process
- Holds the VA accountable to the taxpayers and veterans they serve
This bill is a step in the right direction to give our veterans and their loved ones the care they deserve. I’ll keep fighting to ensure our nation’s veterans receive top-notch care.
