Supporting addiction recovery

Far too many families across Iowa and the country have felt the devastating impact of the opioid crisis. This national epidemic continues to claim the lives of over 150 American every day. Recovery starts in our communities, and we must ensure local organizations have the tools to help individuals rebuild their lives and families heal.

That’s why I introduced bipartisan legislation, the Communities of Recovery Reauthorization Act, which would expand access to local, community-driven recovery services. This bill strengthens federal support for the Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) program, which empowers peer-led recovery programs, housing assistance, job training, and mental health services nationwide.

Bottom Line: Stopping the flow of illegal drugs like fentanyl is critical but we must also provide support to those who are already battling addiction – and that starts in our communities.
