On Veterans Day, we pause to honor the more than half a million Iowans who have answered the call to serve – and to remember that freedom is never free.
The men and women of America’s Armed Forces have always put country before self, defending our nation, our freedoms, and our way of life.
As a 20-year combat veteran and current Air Force Colonel, I’ve seen firsthand the courage, sacrifice, and strength of those who wear the uniform. Iowa’s veterans represent the very best of America, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid.
Today, we also salute the brave men and women serving right now — whose courage and commitment carry forward the proud legacy of those who came before them. Their service keeps our nation strong, free, and secure.
Bottom Line: America remains the land of the free because of the brave. Iowa’s veterans answered the call, and today’s servicemembers continue that proud tradition of service, sacrifice, and strength.
