An investment for Ottumwa

Here’s the Deal: A four-year degree doesn’t guarantee success and it’s not the only pathway to a successful career.

Across the country, there’s a shortage of 80,000 truck drivers. This shortage is making it difficult for stores to restock their shelves and for farmers to get their crops to market. There’s a big opening for new truck drivers – who can make more than $50,000 in their first year.

It’s critical that we invest in these programs. That’s why I just announced a $1 million federal investment for the Indian Hills Community College Truck Driver Education Center in Ottumwa. With this crucial funding, Indian Hills can build a new truck driving skills pad to teach more students and boost the local workforce.

Bottom Line: Skilled workers are in high demand. Promoting other avenues to success is good for employees, businesses, and our country.
