First and foremost, I’m a dad to six wonderful kids. Two of our children we recently adopted through the foster care process. This experience gave me unique insight into the foster care system, showing me the good and the bad. Partly as a result of this experience, I became a co-chair of the Congressional Foster Care Caucus.
This week, we celebrated Foster Youth Shadow Day on Capitol Hill. Foster youth from around the country were able to spend the day with members of Congress and their staff to learn more about Congress. My office had a great day showing Merissa around and talking about the work we do on behalf of Iowans.
