[Week in Review] Protecting Iowa’s Farmers | July 3-7

This week, I introduced legislation to protect Iowa farmers and ranchers from excessive regulation enacted by other states. I also had the opportunity to talk about the vital issues I’m hearing about from you every day and how I’m working to ensure our country is ready for anything that comes our way. Finally, we all enjoyed celebrating the greatest country in the world!  

California’s Proposition 12 requires producers of all meat sold in California to conform to standards set by the State of California—even if they’re located in Iowa. This regulation would effectively require farmers, ranchers, and producers in Iowa to submit to California’s laws.   As the #1 pork producing state in that country, Prop 12’s red tape is a direct threat to our economy and jobs. I introduced new legislation this week with fellow Iowan Representative Ashley Hinson to protect Iowa’s farmers, ranchers, and producers from excessive government regulation: 

  • California’s Proposition 12 would require all meat sold in California to conform to standards set by the State of California – even if it’s raised in Iowa
  • Prop 12 or similar state laws would raise costs for families in the grocery store and destroy our hog farmers

Our legislation would ensure Iowa’s farmers, ranchers, and producers aren’t subject to this out-of-state interference. Our farmers need the freedom to operate without worrying about burdensome government red tape getting in the way!
