Our country is suffering from an affordable housing crisis, especially in rural areas. Household income in rural Iowa is $10,000 less than the national average.
That’s why I introduced the bipartisan Promote Affordable Rural Housing Act today to combat this challenge – which is only made substantially worse by record high inflation. This bipartisan bill modernizes a USDA program that provides loans to local governments and non-profits that build rental housing for low- and moderate-income renters.
Bottomline: We must address the affordable housing crisis and this commonsense legislation is a step forward in achieving this mission.
