As a former counterintelligence officer who operated against China, I’ve seen firsthand how the Chinese Communist Party exploits data and manipulates minds. That’s why I voted for bipartisan legislation today to prevent China from having undue influence on Americans.
You’ve probably heard a thing or two about this bill. As we’ve seen from social media posts and heard from phone calls to our office, TikTok’s Chinese owners are using their grip on our nation’s young people to instill fear by sharing misleading and deceptive information about this bipartisan bill.
I want to be clear: this is not a ban of TikTok or the content on it. It is only a ban on the Chinese Communist Party using this platform to manipulate any American.
Bottom line: this is a major step in the fight against the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression and a win for Iowa families.
