Fighting for Veterans

When veterans transition from their tour of duty to civilian life, it can be extremely difficult. The pressure of employment, lack of fellowship, substance abuse, and finding a purpose all weigh on our veterans as they return to civilian life.  Unfortunately, this is something I’ve witnessed firsthand as a 20-year Air Force Veteran and a Squadron Commander who saw airmen struggle with the realities of life after service.

That’s why I introduced the Daniel J. Harvey Jr. And Adam Lambert Improving Service member Transition to Reduce Veteran Suicide Act to ensure that veterans are aware of the resources available to them after they leave the Armed Forces. I spoke about this legislation today on the House Floor:

This bill is named for Marine Corporal Adam Lambert of Adel, who tragically lost his life to suicide just one year after returning home. Adam was a son, brother, and a proud Marine who raised his hand to serve our country.

Unfortunately, Adam’s story is becoming all too common. Veteran suicide is a casualty of war – one that demands immediate attention and action by Congress. I’m fighting to pass my bill and help save lives.
