Protecting Iowan’s life savings isn’t a partisan matter – it’s a matter of right or wrong. Today, I fought back against the con artists preying on our retirees across Iowa.
Let’s look at the facts:
- More than 100,000 seniors reported they were victims of scams last year, losing a heartbreaking $33,915.
- More than 6,000 of those seniors lost more than $100,000.
- In Iowa, it was about 600 total seniors who were impacted in 2023.
That’s why today, I helped introduce the bipartisan Empowering States to Protect Seniors from Bad Actors Act, to make sure that states can crack down on fraudsters targeting retirees. This bipartisan legislation will invest in scam prevention at the state level, with a special focus on stopping fraud and combating perpetrators on social media.
The work to protect those in their golden years from these con artists isn’t done yet. I’ll keep fighting to prevent fraud targeting Iowa’s retirees.
