Naloxone is an overdose reversal drug that saves lives every day across the United States. For those who are suffering from addiction to drugs like fentanyl, a dose of naloxone can be the difference between life and death. Simply put, this medication saves lives.
Each day, more than 150 people die from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. In 2021, there were 398 deaths due to overdoses across Iowa. Studies show that nearly half of all overdoses had at least one opportunity for a bystander to intervene and administer lifesaving medication.
That’s why I introduced the Overdose Reversal Medication Act, which will expand access to lifesaving drugs like naloxone.
Bottom Line: Too many Iowans have been personally impacted by the fentanyl crisis. I’ll keep fighting to save lives and protect our community.
