Earlier this year, our community was hit by destructive, deadly, and devastating storms. Iowans are resilient, and watching our community come together to rebuild is inspiring.
It’s costly to rebuild – these storms take an emotional toll and fixing the physical damage is pricey. Recovery is never easy and is a lengthy process, but we can provide some relief to these families by reducing the tax burden and helping their money go a little further.
That’s why I introduced the Heartland Emergency Assistance Relief from Tax (HEART) Act to make any compensation received for damages caused by a severe storm or tornado tax exempt. I’m grateful that Iowa Representatives Marianette Miller-Meeks, Ashley Hinson, and Randy Feenstra joined me in this effort to help Iowa families.
Bottom Line: I’ll keep working to help here at home, in the heart of the heartland, when Mother Nature strikes.
