As a father of six, I’ll never have a more important title than ‘Dad.’ It breaks my heart that some folks struggle to start their families. Infertility used to be the end of the story, but now we have tools, like IVF and other fertility treatments, to help families grow.
Dealing with infertility is difficult, especially emotionally. To make matters worse, a single round of IVF treatment can cost as much as $30,000 – more than many of us can afford. Insurance rarely covers infertility treatment, making this option out of reach for many families.
Today, I introduced the bipartisan HOPE for Fertility Services Act which would require private insurance plans to cover infertility treatment – making these treatments more accessible and affordable for Iowa families.
Bottom Line: Everyone likely knows someone who has experienced infertility, or even tried IVF treatments. I’ll continue to work to make it easier for people to start or grow their families.
