The maternal mortality rate in the United States is the worst out of any high-income country in the world. According to the CDC, nearly 80% of these deaths could be prevented with proper care.
Across the country, it’s estimated that 2 million women live in areas without access to this critical care that promotes the health and well-being of both mom and the baby. Unfortunately, in Iowa, nearly 40% of women don’t have access to this lifesaving care.
Today, I introduced bipartisan legislation to help make maternity care more accessible, especially for high-risk pregnancies. Check out our announcement in Des Moines:
The HELP for MOM Act will incentivize states to provide coordinated and comprehensive care, making it easier for moms to receive the healthcare assistance they need and deserve.
Bottom Line: I’ll continue to fight for real solutions that help families, like this critical legislation.
