Extremists in Washington, D.C. want to forgive student loans for art students and more. But let’s be clear, “forgiving” student loans only punishes those who chose not to take out a loan by forcing them to pay for someone else’s debt. That’s wrong, and it goes against the principles our country was founded on.
It’s time we start telling the truth: A four-year degree doesn’t guarantee success, and it’s not the only pathway to success.
That’s why in Congress, I’ve worked to make it easier for Iowans to access the training needed to secure a good paying job:
- Investing in CDL programs by securing $1 million for the Des Moines Area Community College Transportation Institute Education Center and the Indian Hills Community College Truck Driver Education Center
- Fighting to strengthen our workforce by championing the CAREERS Act to support training opportunities in rural communities
- Promoting apprenticeships by cosponsoring the Strengthening Youth Apprenticeships Act to connect students to these opportunities
Bottom Line: Skilled workers are in high demand. Promoting other pathways to success is good for employees, businesses, and our country.
