We can beat child cancer

Children should have the same opportunity as adults to beat cancer. But unfortunately, kids don’t always have access to the same cutting-edge trials and therapies for cancer treatment.

Right now, adults can participate in a trial to test if a combination of treatments can cure their cancer. These combination therapies aren’t available to kids – even though their cancer is rarely cured by one-drug treatments because their cancer is so advanced.

That’s why I cosponsored the Give Kids a Chance Act. This bipartisan legislation – which passed the House of Representatives today – will improve cancer research to allow kids to try combinations of treatments, as prescribed by their doctors, to fight their cancer.

Bottom Line: Cancer is the leading cause of death in children – we need to use every weapon in our arsenal to fight back and save lives.
