Stopping in to thank our local first responders 👮🚒 🚑

Each day, Iowa’s first responders sacrifice so much to keep our neighborhoods safe. This week, I stopped by the Windsor Heights Police Department and Fire Department to learn more about the biggest threats facing our community and say thank you.

First responders face the unknown, carrying out a mission and putting themselves in harm’s way to protect us. No matter the weather – rain, sleet, snow, ice, tornado, or flood – they answer the call at all hours to protect their neighbors.

While serving in Congress, I’ve fought to make sure our men and women who wear the uniform have the support they need through commonsense legislation, including:

  • Backing the blue by passing the P.O.L.I.C.E. Act to enhance penalties for those who target and harm law enforcement
  • Supporting rural first responders by passing the bipartisan Protect to Invest Act to help with recruitment, retention, and mental health support for police officers
  • Helping parents who serve our communities by advocating for the Providing Child Care for Police Officers Act, a bipartisan bill to ensure officers have access to reliable childcare
  • Standing with community law enforcement departments by passing legislation to condemn efforts to defund local law enforcement

Bottom Line: Join me in saying a HUGE thank you to Iowa’s police officers, firefighters, EMTs, nurses, and all those who respond to emergencies to keep us safe. Â
