It’s National Adoption Month! As a co-chair of the Congressional Foster Youth Caucus and father to two adoptive daughters, this issue is personal to me.
Just last year, Kelly and I officially welcomed Jayna and Aliya into our family. Since they first came to live with us in 2021, we knew they were permanent additions to our family. Our experience with the foster and adoption process taught us a lot about the system – and ways it can be improved.
That’s why, as your Congressman, I’ve fought to ensure every child can grow up in a safe and loving home:
- Connecting kids with loving homes by co-chairing the Congressional Foster Caucus
- Making adoption easier by leading bipartisan legislation to improve adoptive and foster services
- Cutting costs for families as they adopt children by introducing bipartisan legislation to expand tax credits
- Keeping siblings together by championing legislation to provide a tax credit to families who adopt siblings in the same year
Bottom Line: Family is important. I’ll continue to look for commonsense solutions that help kids find their forever home.
