I have BIG NEWS!

Thousands of Iowans dedicate their career to public service – firefighters and police officers who keep us safe, healthcare workers who tend to the sick, transportation workers who maintain roads, and more – before retiring. Unfortunately, these retirees are cheated out of their Social Security benefits.

Until now.

I’m excited to share that a bill I championed to fix this disparity, the Social Security Fairness Act, was just signed into law. Public servants deserve the benefits they paid into – and this bill, now federal law, ensures they can rely on their hard-earned benefits.

Look, when the government created Social Security, it made a commitment to America’s seniors. I’m 100% committed to protecting that promise. That’s why I’ve fought to defend these benefits while making it easier for Iowans to retire by:

  • Defending Social Security and Medicare benefits by championing legislation to ensure the federal government has a plan to ensure retirees receive their full benefits despite the added challenges created by inflation
  • Protecting Medicare by leading legislation to expand coverage, prevent cuts, and stop delays
  • Strengthening Medicare by leading on legislation to expand coverage for cancer screenings
  • Expanding access to Medicare by supporting legislation to improve rural health coverage

In addition to leading bipartisan legislation to protect this commitment, my office is here to help. If you or a loved one are facing issues related to Social Security, Medicare, or another federal agency, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office at 515-400-8180 or visit nunn.house.gov/federalagency.

Bottom Line: I will always fight to ensure Iowans can count on their Social Security and Medicare benefits.
