Fentanyl is the number one killer of Americans from my daughter’s age to my age. The illicit drug impacts families across all demographics and backgrounds, tearing communities apart. Something must change.
Securing the border is the first step to stopping the scourge of fentanyl pouring into our communities. But, we must also cut off the cartel’s supply at its source. That starts with holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its role as the primary manufacturer, supplier, and launderer of these illicit drugs worldwide.
Here’s the deal: China is the primary source of fentanyl production. The chemical compounds for this lethal drug are manufactured in Beijing and then sent to cartel laboratories in Mexico. Then, mules from the Mexican cartels move deadly fentanyl across our wide-open Southern Border and disperse these drugs in our local communities and neighborhoods, killing our friends, neighbors, and family members.
The longer we allow the Chinese Communist Party to continue to poison our loved ones, the crisis will only get more dangerous. The fentanyl crisis demands immediate action, and it is past time that we put an end to this heartbreaking madness.
That’s why I just introduced the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act, which would allow sanctions to be brought against Chinese individuals and organizations involved in the production, sale, financing, or transportation of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids. This is a critical step forward to keep our families and communities safe.
Bottom Line: I’m committed to stopping the fentanyl crisis at its source and keeping fellow Americans safe. My heart goes out to all the families in Iowa and the country impacted by this crisis.
