Iowans count on clean, safe water in our homes, on our farms, and in our businesses. What a lot of folks might not realize is that small town water systems can be targets for cyber attacks. A single cyber attack could disrupt access to clean water, compromise public health and safety, and cause major problems for our rural communities. That’s why I introduced the Cybersecurity for Rural Water Systems Act to better protect our water systems.

This bipartisan bill will:
- Give rural water operators the training they need to protect their systems from hackers.
- Help small water utilities strengthen their cyber defenses.
- Make sure there is a plan in place to respond quickly to a cyber intrusion.
Bottom Line: A resilient Iowa starts with secure, reliable water. Strengthening security now prevents costly disruptions in the future. Let’s make sure our rural communities are protected.
