Every day, Iowa’s law enforcement officers run into danger to keep our community safe. Unfortunately, too many of them know the risks of their job personally. Last year, 342 officers were tragically shot and sadly, 50 were fatal. We have to do more to keep them safe.
Backing the blue is about more than just saying thank you—it means advocating for policies that ensure they can access the resources and mental health support they need.

That’s why I cosponsored the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act. This bipartisan bill would direct the Department of Justice to track targeted attacks on officers and assess the availability of mental health resources for officers who experience trauma on the job.
Bottom Line: We can – and must – do more to support Iowa’s men and women in blue. I will always fight to put them first and thank them for their service.
