Main Street Deserves Better

Over the last four years, the federal government has been hitting Iowa businesses with fines as high as $150,000 for following our own state laws that conflict with outdated federal regulations.

Why it matters: Main Street businesses employ nearly half of Iowa’s workforce. When D.C. overreaches, it doesn’t just impact business owners, it hits the workers, families, and farms that keep Iowa growing.

The good news: The Trump administration understands that innovation starts at the local level, and that the federal government needs to break its habit of hitting our job creators with fines when they haven’t done anything wrong.

That was clear in my meeting this week with Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, where I laid out how these enforcement tactics are hurting Iowa businesses and presented her with an award from the Iowa Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 33.

Bottom Line: My mission in Congress is to make D.C. more like Iowa, not the other way around. I will always stand up for Iowa’s workers and job creators when the federal government crosses the line.
