Today, we pause to remember the heroes who gave their lives so we can live in freedom.
More than 26,000 Iowans have been killed in action — including Red Oak’s own Corporal Daegan Page, who gave everything during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Their sacrifice reminds us that the blessings we enjoy today came at a great cost.
Behind every servicemember’s headstone at Normandy, Arlington, and in the Panora community where we paid respects today, is a story of courage, sacrifice, and love of country. These brave men and women didn’t serve for recognition — they served so others could live free.
Let us never take that freedom for granted. And let us live each day in a way that honors their legacy.
