Every year, thousands of Iowa seniors rely on Medicare to cover their prescriptions, doctor visits, and hospital stays. But when it comes to mental health or addiction recovery services, D.C. red tape is still blocking access to care for which they already qualified.
Why it matters: Seniors dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or addiction are being turned away, not because therapy isn’t covered, but because of outdated rules about when and how medicare benefits can be used.
Support is available. But our archaic system won’t let them take advantage of it.
📺 Watch this video to learn about our new bipartisan bill—the Occupational Therapy (OT) Mental Health Parity Act—which would cut through the red tape and unlock therapy services for those who need it most:
Here’s what the bill does:
✂️ Removes outdated Medicare limits that block OT for mental health and addiction
🚪 Allows seniors to use OT for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and recovery
👩‍⚕️ Strengthens the mental health workforce with licensed OT providers
Bottom Line: If Medicare covers it, seniors should be able to use it — no delays, no detours, no red tape.
