Iowa’s pork producers are proud to feed the nation. But California is trying to tell the nation how the country should farm — and that’s not acceptable.Â
California’s Proposition 12 bans the sale of pork unless it meets their extreme space requirements, even if the pigs are raised in Iowa.Â
Why it matters: California’s Proposition 12 bans the sale of pork unless it meets their unworkable regulations. That means higher prices for Iowa consumers and devastating costs for producers.
Since Prop 12 went into effect in California:Â
-
- Pork prices jumped more than 40%
- USDA Secretaries from both parties have said Prop 12 causes “chaos” and is “unsustainable”
The solution: We just introduced the Save Our Bacon Act — legislation to protect Iowa farmers from California’s overreach.Â
🎥 I joined an Agriculture Committee hearing today to talk about our new bill and why it’s time to stop one state from controlling how the entire country farms.
The Save Our Bacon Act would:Â
✅ Stop other states from dictating Iowa’s livestock rules
✅ Protect interstate commerce and the rights of Iowa’s producers
âś… Prevent future Prop 12-style mandates that limit freedom and drive up pricesÂ
Bottom Line: I will always stand with Iowa’s farmers and producers to defend their way of life and ensure Iowa families aren’t forced to pay more because of out-of-touch, blue-state mandates.
