Iowa farmers grow some of the highest-quality, most nutritious food in the world. But today, too many Iowa families struggle to access Iowa produce and too many small producers can’t sell directly to their own communities.
The problem: We don’t have a food supply problem. We have a food access problem. Right now, small and mid-sized farmers across Iowa are shut out of federal food programs that favor national distributors.
That means Iowa-grown produce ends up thousands of miles away instead of on the plates of local families, in our schools, or at food banks just down the road.
The result? A broken system and a missed opportunity to feed our own communities and strengthen Iowa’s rural economy.

The solution: We just introduced the Local Farmers Feeding Our Communities Act, a bipartisan bill that:
✅ Empowers states to work directly with local farmers
✅ Gets fresh, Iowa-grown food to families, schools, and food banks
✅ Strengthens Iowa’s rural economy
Bottom Line: We’re working to make sure Iowa-grown food feeds Iowa families first. This bill supports small farmers, expands access to healthy meals, and strengthens Iowa communities with the produce that’s already growing at family farms across our state.
