Addiction doesn’t discriminate — it touches every zip code in Iowa. But so does hope.
This week, we visited St. Gregory’s Recovery Center in Jefferson where a team of dedicated health professionals are helping Iowans break free from alcohol and drug addiction.

Why it matters: Addiction takes a toll not just on individuals, but on families, neighborhoods, and small towns across Iowa. In too many rural communities, access to treatment is limited or nonexistent. That leaves Iowans without the support they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
Places like St. Gregory’s prove what is possible when we invest in recovery close to home. Their model combines treatment, job training, and community support — helping Iowans not only get healthy, but also get back on their feet and build a stronger future.
The solution: Earlier this year, we passed our bipartisan Communities of Recovery Reauthorization Act in the House to invest in recovery centers like St. Gregory’s and make sure Iowans who need help the most can get it.
Our bill increases federal investment in community recovery by:
✅ Tripling funding for peer-led support programs
✅ Supporting housing, job training, and mental health services
✅ Expanding local access to care in underserved areas across the country
Bottom Line: Recovery works when we invest in people and our communities. I’ll keep fighting to make sure Iowans battling addiction have a real path to healing — and the support they need every step of the way.
