💪 Perry’s Comeback

Perry is a strong community — and like many small towns across Iowa, that strength shows when neighbors step up for one another. That same spirit has carried Perry through challenges in the past, and it’s what is driving local leaders, community members, and my office to make sure this community emerges stronger than ever.

Back up: When Tyson Foods announced it would close its Perry facility in 2024, the community felt an immediate impact: more than 1,300 jobs disappeared, families were forced to relocate, and local businesses had to fight to stay afloat.

Why it matters: As families moved and businesses closed, the Perry community felt a strain on everything from classrooms to first responders. With fewer students, fewer customers, and fewer tax dollars, local leaders were left making tough choices to keep vital services running.

Zoom in: From day one, we’ve worked alongside city and school officials, nonprofits, and Tyson to push for a clear transition plan and real support for the people impacted.

That work continued today at a roundtable with local leaders, where we reviewed progress, raised ongoing concerns, and recommitted to holding Tyson accountable for delivering on its promises and helping ensure Perry’s long-term stability.

The good news: Just down the road, a new chapter is beginning. Today, we broke ground on a $135 million JBS facility that will create 500 good-paying jobs and bring new opportunities to Dallas County. It’s a major win — and a sign that Perry’s comeback is already underway.

Bottom Line: Recovering from a plant closure isn’t easy. But Perry is doing it the right way: with grit, strong partnerships, and a clear plan for the future. I’ll keep standing with this community as we put that plan into action.Â
