It’s Day 15 of the Democrat Shutdown. Nearly 2 million federal employees—including 15,000 Iowa National Guardsmen—should be getting paid today.Â
But Congress didn’t do its job, so the only reason they received their paychecks is because the President pulled funds from other Department of Defense accounts.Â
Last month, I helped pass a commonsense resolution to:
âś… Keep the government open
âś… Pay our troops
âś… Preserve essential services Iowa families rely on
But House Democrats (all but one) voted against it. Then, 45 Senate Democrats blocked the clean funding bill, causing the government to shut down on October 1st.Â
Why it matters: Until the government re-opens, millions of American families won’t have a steady source of income. That means bills go unpaid, families cut back on essentials, and troops overseas worry about making ends meet.
I joined Speaker Johnson today to call out the political games and defend our servicemembers. ⬇️
What I’m hearing from Iowa servicemembers:
🗣️ “We’re working but don’t know if we’re getting paid” — Chaplain Caleb Winey
🪖 “Joint training with NATO allies was canceled” — SFC Chase HolmÂ
We’ll keep working in Iowa and D.C. to make sure Iowa families don’t pay the price for this government shutdown.Â
Bottom Line: The shutdown can end today. Senate Democrats just need to decide what matters more — paying our troops and keeping America strong, or playing politics with people’s livelihoods.
