Itâs Halloween, and Washingtonâs putting on quite the show â but the scary part isnât the costumes or movies, itâs the government shutdownâs ghoulish effects creeping into month two.Â
Behind the theatrics of Washington, Iowans are feeling the impact. In just a few hours:Â
â Food assistance will run out for more than 300,000 Iowans
â Federal workers will have missed another paycheck
â Flights will be delayed from Des Moines International AirportÂ
â Small businesses will be waiting on SBA loans to make payroll
Every Iowan Iâve spoken with knows the fear of missed paychecks, paused food assistance, and delayed loans, and they made it clear: Iowans are tired of the same old Washington horror story.Â
That’s why I supported a clean, nonpartisan funding bill that would keep the government open â but 45 Senate Democrats are playing tricks and hiding behind a mask.Â
The solution: Senate Democrats need to stop their tricks and deliver the treat that Iowa families are counting on, and that starts with voting to reopen the government.Â
Bottom Line: Iowa families shouldnât be trapped in Washingtonâs haunted house. Congress needs to act now, and Iâm fighting to make sure this nightmare comes to an end.
