As a combat veteran who’s served in the Iowa Air National Guard and flown missions in the Middle East and off the coasts of Russia and China, I know firsthand the risks our servicemembers take every time they put on the uniform.
That’s why it meant so much to stand alongside the Iowa Air National Guard Airmen today at the Iowa Air National Guard 132d Air Wing’s Annual Award Ceremony in Des Moines.
What happened: The 132d Air Wing honored distinguished Airmen for their service over the past year — recognizing mission success, professionalism, and readiness as they look ahead to the year to come.
Why it matters: Iowa’s Airmen do more than serve their country. They balance civilian careers, family responsibilities, and constant military readiness — always prepared to answer the call when our nation needs them most.
We honor that commitment not only with events like today’s award ceremony, but by fighting for real solutions in Congress to address the challenges Guardsmen and their families face — both during service and after the uniform comes off.
Here’s what we’re doing in Congress to support our Airmen and their families: ⬇️
🧠 Leading legislation to expand access to mental health care as troops transition out of service
🏥 Advancing a bill to extend health care enrollment timelines when bureaucracy and red tape get in the way
Bottom Line: When duty calls, Iowa’s Airmen step up without hesitation. I’ll keep standing up for them and the families who stand behind them — delivering support that works in the real world, not just on paper.
