Iowa farmers are being told their pork can’t make it to market unless they follow rules written in California.
That’s Proposition 12 — a mandate that blocks Iowa pork from being sold in one of the nation’s largest markets unless our producers overhaul their operations to meet California standards.
The reality: Iowa knows pork. We’re the #1 pork-producing state in America. California produces less than 1% of the nation’s pork. Yet their politicians think they can regulate how Iowa farmers operate from more than 1,500 miles away.
Here’s what that would look like on the ground in Iowa: ⬇️
💰 Costly barn retrofits that can run more than $4,500 per sow
👨👩👧👦 Smaller family operations — 97% of farms in Iowa — hit hardest
🛒 Higher prices for families at the grocery store
⚠️ And a dangerous precedent that invites other states to regulate Iowa agriculture
The solution: I’m backing the Save Our Bacon Act to stop out-of-state mandates on Iowa livestock producers and protect open markets, so our farmers can continue selling across state lines.
Bottom Line: Iowa raises the best pork in the world. Our farmers shouldn’t have to answer to Sacramento to feed America. I’ll keep fighting to defend Iowa agriculture, protect family farms, and make food more affordable for every family.
