🚨 Resources for Iowans and Military Families in the Middle East

Since U.S. military strikes against Iran began last weekend, I’ve heard from Iowans across our communities — from families with loved ones overseas to those anxiously following developments from home. During moments like this, my priority is making sure every Iowa family knows where to turn for reliable information and support.

The State Department has established a 24/7 task force to assist Americans in the region. While airspace closures are currently restricting commercial travel, the U.S. government is actively working to coordinate departure options — including commercial carriers, U.S.-assisted airlift, and military aircraft.

If you or someone you know is in the region, the most important first step is registering with the State Department so officials can confirm your location and provide direct updates.

💬 Sign up for security alerts from the nearest U.S. Embassy:

Once you are registered, follow the guidance from the State Department and embassy officials. In many areas right now, that guidance may include sheltering in place until departure instructions are provided.

For Iowa military families, I am coordinating directly with the Secretary of War and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ensure Iowa units and families on the homefront receive timely and accurate information.

If an Iowa servicemember has been injured and evacuated from the theater, the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs offers an Injured Veterans Grant of up to $10,000 to help families travel and be by their loved one’s side.
