It’s Tax Day, and for Iowa families, this year feels different.Â
Erika, who manages a bar in Ankeny, told me that most of her income comes from tips — money she relies on for rent, groceries, and gas. For years, Washington taxed those tips like a fixed salary, ignoring the reality that a slow Tuesday can make the difference between getting by and falling behind. Now, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, she can deduct up to $25,000 in tips tax-free — letting her keep more of what she’s earned.Â
The same goes for overtime. In Wayne County, Sheriff Davis shared how his deputies are putting in long hours — nights, weekends, and holidays — to keep communities safe. With No Taxes on Overtime, they can keep up to $12,500 more of that hard-earned pay.Â
And it’s not just individual stories — the numbers tell the same story for Americans filing across the country:
I also shared more about what this Tax Day means for Iowa families in the Des Moines Register today. ⬇️
This same pro-family, pro-worker approach runs throughout the law with:Â
👶 A $2,200 Child Tax Credit to help cover everyday expenses
👪 My $5,000 Adoption Tax Credit to support parents growing their families
đź‘´ A $6,000 deduction for seniors on Social SecurityÂ
🚀 “Trump Accounts” providing a $1,000 investment for every newbornÂ
Bottom Line: This Tax Day, Iowa families are keeping more of what they earn — and I’ll keep working to make sure more of that money stays right where it belongs: here in Iowa and spent, or saved, in our communities.
