🏠 HUD Secretary Comes to Iowa

Last Friday in Waukee, Habitat for Humanity crews were hard at work framing up homes for families who’ve waited years for the chance to own one. It was a powerful reminder of what homeownership means to Iowa families as we welcomed HUD Secretary Scott Turner to see firsthand what Iowa families need to make the American dream of homeownership a reality again.

Back up: Two weeks ago, the House advanced the most significant housing reform package in over two decades — including my Rural Housing Service Reform Act — with overwhelmingly bipartisan support.

During our visit to the Habitat build site, Secretary Turner and I highlighted why these reforms matter so much to Iowa families and for rural communities that have spent far too long waiting for Washington to recognize their unique housing needs. ⬇️

Why it matters: Homeownership in Iowa isn’t just an investment strategy. It’s how families put down roots, raise their kids, and build their future. It’s the house on Main Street where memories are made, and retirement begins. When the HUD Secretary stands on a construction site in Waukee listening directly to Iowa families, builders, and community leaders, it means Iowa’s voice is helping shape the future of housing policy.

Bottom Line: We passed the biggest housing reform package in a generation. Now we’re making sure Iowa’s priorities are reflected not only in the legislation itself, but in the federal programs and policies that follow.
