My family and I spent this morning visiting the Blank Children’s Hospital STAR Center and Foster Care Clinic. We fostered and then adopted our two youngest daughters earlier this year, so this visit was personal for my family.
Kelly, Olympia, Selwyn, Jayna, and Aliya joined me to donate toys and learn more about the important services they offer to children while they are in a vulnerable situation. We learned about the support the nurses, physicians, social workers, and frontline medical specialists at Blank Children’s Hospital provide to families in some of life’s most difficult situations.
I’ve made it a priority of mine to help every child grow up in a safe, loving, and forever home:
- Connecting kids with loving homes by co-chairing the Congressional Foster Caucus.
- Making adoption easier by leading on bipartisan legislation to improve adoptive and foster services.
- Cutting costs for families to adopt by introducing bipartisan legislation to expand tax credits.
- Keeping families together during a difficult situation by advocating for bipartisan legislation to keep siblings together during the foster and adoption processes.
- Helping military families by passing bipartisan legislation to expand parental leave.
- Protecting vulnerable young people by championing bipartisan legislation to ensure that homeless or runaway children have a safe and secure environment to grow and learn in.
